  1. What is D√©cor?
  2. D√©cor allows you to replace the desktop pattern with a background picture of your choice. You can have it display a file, or pick one from a folder. D√©cor recognizes StartupScreen, PICT, GIF and JPEG files. All changes to its settings take effect without needing to restart the computer. D√©cor reacts correctly to screen depth or screen resolution changes. It can change the picture automatically every once in a while. It has support for dragging and scripting. It has Balloon Help. It is accelerated for PowerPC Macs. And it even comes with a companion Control Strip module for faster access!

  4. Installation

Click the Continue button to use the installer. It will make sure that your Mac has the required hardware and software features required to run D√©cor. Then, it will place an extension called "D√©cor Daemon" into your Extensions folder, and the rest of the files into a new folder on your hard drive. If you have already installed an older version of D√©cor, the existing "D√©cor Daemon" extension will be overwritten; make a backup of it if you need to!

The installer only places on your hard disk the software which is relevant to your kind of Mac. That is, it installs only the 68K part of D√©cor if you have a regular Macintosh, and it installs only the PowerPC part if you have a Power Macintosh. Upon request, it can also install a "fat binary" containing both parts - just select the "Custom Install" option and then select the "Universal Install" package. If you want to check which version has been installed, do a Get Info on D√©cor or D√©cor Daemon; it will say "68K only", "PowerPC only", or "68K and PowerPC".

  9. D√©cor requires a Mac with a 68020 or later processor, running System 7 and 32 bit QuickDraw. Any reasonably recent color-capable Mac should meet these requirements. If you're unsure whether your Mac qualifies, don't worry - the installer will let you know if installation is impossible.
